The media program offers 21st century instruction and technology, as well as the latest print and electronic collections for all of our students, parents, and teachers. Our Media Center programs increase students' reading skills while fostering a love for reading, which is a fundamental part of academic growth and improvement. Our media programs enhance information literacy, motivating students to enjoy reading, and to make it an essential part of their lives.

Classroom Guidance Curriculum

Classroom guidance lessons for all students at Beacon Cove take place during fine arts time.  Guidance has part time classes on the fine arts wheel. When students do not have guidance, they go with their class and teacher to the science lab to take advantage of a valuable STEM education.

Classroom guidance lesson topics this school year include, but are not limited to:

  • Character education
  • Empathy
  • Creating Positive Relationships
  • Filling other's buckets
  • Stress
  • Student Success Skills (Keep "Kool" Tunes, Safe Place, Classroom Environment)
  • Setting Goals
  • Resolving Conflicts
  • Bullying and Cyberbullying
  • Middle School Transition

Small Group Counseling

Small Group Counseling is a very important piece of the comprehensive guidance program here at Beacon Cove Intermediate. This time for students is a valuable time to work with their school counselor and other students to work through and develop skills to deal with life's difficulties. We are pleased to offer these groups throughout the school year:

  • Grief
  • Changing Families (divorce)
  • Social Skills
  • Anxiety/Worry
  • Seeing Red (anger management)

Small group counseling is provided during the school day, for 30 minutes once a week. Parent permission slip is required to participate in the group. Students are referred by school staff, parents and students themselves.

College Fridays

Students will be able to wear a t-shirt with a university of their choice on the last Friday of every month.  This helps us to encourage and have conversations with students about their college and career goals and aspirations, as well as to discuss with them their responsibility in school to be college and career ready.

Please stay tuned for our special bulletin board "WE WENT TO COLLEGE, YOU CAN TOO" that will feature staff around Beacon Cove and where they went to college!  I will post pictures as soon as that bulletin board is up here at school ~ Mrs. Butler
